Nayarit Gold Inc. Quality
Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Procedures
Planning for Success
Implementing QA/QC procedures at the early stages of an exploration
program can result in significant time and cost saving if
the program is successful. The resulting data from the exploration
program can be verified and its integrity validated making
its incorporation into development data much easier. This
reduces the need to repeat drilling and sampling thereby saving
money in the early capitalization of the project.
Nayarit Gold Inc. has implemented the following QA/QC procedures
for all drilling programs, and specifically the Orion Gold
Project diamond drilling program. Approximately 10% of all
samples submitted to the primary assay laboratory will be
for QA/QC purposes and, in addition, approximately 5% of all
samples will be check assayed by a second laboratory. The
objective of these procedures is to ensure that reporting
of assay data from the Orion Gold Project is of the highest
quality and furthermore that all disclosure meets or exceeds
C.I.M. Best Practices Guidelines and National Instrument 43-101
(NI 43-101) standards of disclosure.
Chain of Custody and Core Handling
- Core is picked up at the drill rig on a regular schedule
and transported by vehicle to the logging facility
- The logging facility will be kept under lock and key when
Nayarit employees are not present
- Drill core is laid out in sequence on racks and the driller’s
depth markers are checked and discrepancies recorded
- Core is re-pieced and marked at one metre intervals for
referencing
- Core boxes are labelled with the hole numbers and core
intervals
- All sampled core is cut or split in half with one half
sent for analysis and the remaining half retained for future
reference
- Core cutting will be supervised by the geologist logging
the core who will ensure that the sequence of blanks and
duplicates is followed
- Cut core is placed in clean transparent plastic sample
bags along with a pre-printed sample ticket, another ticket
remains in the core tray for reference and a third is kept
in the ticket booklet as a permanent record
- Each bag is sealed with a uniquely numbered non-resealable
security strap
- The lab will notify Nayarit if the samples do not arrive
with the security seal intact and will retain all seals
providing a provable chain of custody
- Sealed sample bags are placed in rice bags in sequence
for shipment to the lab.
Core Logging
- Geological data is recorded manually on pre-printed standardized
logging sheets
- Detailed information recorded includes lithology, structure,
alteration, mineralization and other notable characteristics
- Geotechnical information includes percentages for core
recovery and rock quality for each drill run (3 metres)
and magnetic susceptibility values every metre
- Sample intervals are recorded with specific alteration
and mineralization percentages noted for each sample
Primary Laboratory
- Each drilling project Nayarit undertakes will designate
a laboratory to be used as the “primary” lab
- For the Orion Gold Project the primary lab will be ASL
Chemex, an internationally recognized ISO 9001:2000 and
QMI registered company
- Each entire sample is fine crushed to 90% passing 10
mesh (2 mm), one kilogram of crushed material is split and
pulverized to 85% passing 200 mesh (75 micron)
- Fire assays are performed using 50g of pulverized material
with an AAS finish
- Multielement analysis (34 elements) are determined by
aqua regia acid digestion ICPAES
QA/QC Samples
- 10% of all samples submitted to the lab will be for QA/QC
purposes
- Blanks will be inserted in a predetermined sequence to
ensure that any possible sample contamination is identified
- Two core duplicates of ¼ core will be used to
calculate precision
- Nayarit also requests that the lab report the results
of their internal quality control samples (reference materials,
blanks and duplicates) used in each fire assay batch
Secondary Laboratory
- Approximately 5% of all samples sent to the primary lab
will be forwarded to a “secondary” lab and reanalyzed
for Au by fire assay and multielement analysis by aqua regia
acid digestion
- These “check samples” will serve as a final
check on the quality of the assay data
- The secondary lab for the Orion Gold Project will be
SGS Mineral Services, an internationally recognized ISO/IEC
17025 accredited company
Data Verification
- On a continuous basis statistical analysis of duplicates,
blanks and other data obtained from the lab will be performed
to determine if the QA/QC procedures need to be modified
- Results from the primary and secondary lab are compared
and analyzed
